A hat-trick from Raúl helped Real Madrid to close the gap on leaders Barcelona as they beat Sevilla 2-4.

Real Madrid are doing all they can to keep the pressure on Barcelona, this time winning 3-0 against Almería. Brazilian Marcelo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and then the in-form Huntelaar – eight goals in his last six games – grabbed a pair to give Real a comfortable win.

Better performance from Real Madrid

A much improved performance from Real Madrid saw them move within three points of leaders Barcelona pending Sunday’s games after beating Athletic Bilbao 2-5 on Saturday evening.

Former Real Madrid president detained

The former president of Real Madrid, Lorenzo Sanz, has been arrested in connection with the handling of fake promisory notes. Two other people have also been detained. Sanz is expected to make a brief court appearance before being released.
