Painting exhibition

The Sala Mercado in calle San Miguel – next to the taxi rank – is home to an exhibition of paintings by school children in Nerja organised by the religious brotherhood Pro-Cofradia de Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo y María Santísima de los Desamparados (Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus the Captive and Holy Mary of the Helpless). The exhibition continues until March 30th, Holy Tuesday, and is open from 18:00 to 22:00.

Balcon de Europa, NerjaBuilding works just wouldn’t be building works if sections of road didn’t have to be dug up at least twice, and so it was no surprise to see a crater reappear in calle Carmen, next to the Balcón de Europa.

It was, however, a small area which had not yet been paved, which leads one to believe that, on this occasion, renewed digging was both expected and intentional.


Opposition laments ‘no rush’ attitude

The PSOE spokesman in Nerja, Ángel Ramírez, has lamented the fact that the Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, does not consider a new PGOU (General Plan) to be a priority. Ramírez believes the statement ‘there is no rush to adopt it’ is a fallacy because the PGOU is an essential tool for shaping the future.

Festival raised €3197.84

The organisation Doctors Without Borders has received the monies collected at the Festival for Haiti held in Nerja in February, the total amount raised being €3197.84. The money will be used by Doctors Without Borders to support various projects is is involved with.


Housing project in El Romeral

The Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has stated that there is no urgency to introduce a new PGOU (General Plan) as the municipality still has the possibility to construct 2,500 units under the current PGOU which dates back to 2000. It would be another matter, he added, if like Fuengirola they had run out of land upon which to build, but they haven’t. more »
