THE AEN ON EL PLAYAZO, CAR PARKS AND FERIAS

The Asociación de Empresarios de Nerja (AEN) have been meeting to formulate their proposals in relation to the future municipal Plan General de Ordenación Urbana or PGOU (all hail and genuflect) as it is more commonly known.

On the subject of the development of El Playazo beach for tourism, the AEN supports the creation of 550 hotel beds and that hotels should form the ‘front line’ at the beach. Furthermore, they would like to see the tourist-related zone, currently set to 100 metres from the shoreline, increased by 50 metres to give it a similar appearance to Burriana beach.

On the subject of car parking, the AEN suggests the necessity for four major car parks, one in Carabeo with 550 places, one at Burriana with 800 places, one at the future feria ground with 400 places and one at the back of the old covered market (behind Mercadona) with 600 places.

The AEN also proposes a new site for the feria ground, to the west of the Sports Stadium on the Rio Chillar with a new access road being built to that area.

There is, of course, already a PGOU in force (and that took years to formulate) so we are probably talking years ahead here.

There are many, for example, both resident and visitor, who would prefer to see areas such as El Playazo remain more traditionally ‘Spanish’ in atmosphere rather than be turned into a ‘New Burriana’ with all the associated big-screen tv’s and over-priced drinks.

Time will tell….
