WEEKEND FOOTY ROUND-UP

Real Madrid are now nine points clear of their nearest challengers, arch rivals Barcelona, after a 3-2 win at home to Villarreal. Robinho bagged a pair, with Sneijder getting the third for Real. Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw by Athlétic. No change in the all important top four as the chasing pack of Villarreal, Atlético and Espanyol all lost.

Numancia have extended their lead over the Blue and Whites at the top of Division Two after coming from behind to beat Las Palmas 1-2. The Canary Islanders took an early lead through Marcos Márquez who, shortly thereafter, was ordered back to the dressing room by the referee. Hero and villain rolled into one. The second half saw Gorka Brit score twice for Numancia to turn the match around, although the locals could have equalised if only Fukuda had not missed a last minute penalty.
