EARLY FOOTY

Real Madrid beat Recreativo 3-2, with Robinho the hero of the day with two goals after coming on as a substitute.

This was the first victory in four games for Real and they now go back to a five point lead at the top of the table after Barcelona were beaten 4-2 by Atlético Madrid. Ronaldinho put Barca ahead after 29 minutes with a flashy and acrobatic overhead scissor-kick but then Atlético bounced back to score four in a row. Samuel Eto’o got the second for Barcelona.

Sevilla suffered a setback in their quest for a Champions League spot as the went down 2-1 to Deportivo. It was good for Deportivo, however, as it lifted them off the bottom of the table.

Espanyol moved ahead of Sevilla into fifth place in La Liga after a 2-0 win over Valencia, Luis Garcia getting both goals.
