A 30 year old Briton has been arested following a hit and run accident in Estepona in which five people, including three children, were injured.
The accident occurred at the junction of avenida Andalucía and avenida de los Reales. The driver, initials D.A.J., ignored a red light and hit a group of people on the zebra crossing. The injured were two mothers and three children, one of whom was in a pram.
The driver sped away from the scene and local residents attempted to follow him but had to give up the chase due to the high speeds involved. Statements by witnesses to the accident were instrumental in helping the police find the car, an Opel Astra.
The car, which displayed much damage as a result of the accident, was towed away and the driver was detained when he went in to claim it back.
A two year old baby who was trapped in his pram as a result of the accident is still in hospital.
