A British woman and her teenage daughter died yesterday after being swept away by flood waters near Valencia.
Lorraine Cullen, her two daughters and another person, were trying to get to their isolated home in the village of l’Olleria. Near their home is a river bed, normally dry, but prone to fill with water during heavy rains, such as have been experienced recently in the area.
Leaving the car at the edge of the river, Lorraine and her 14 year old daughter Lauren attempted to cross the river but lost their footing and were swept away. Their bodies were found by rescue workers about four hours later, around midnight, after an intense search.
