Barcelona move ten points clear

Barcelona are now ten points clear at the top of La Liga after coming from behind to beat Villarreal 2-1.

Cani opened the scoring for Villarreal at the start of the second half, but it wasn’t long before Barcelona equalised through Keita. Thierry Henry slotted home what turned out to be the winner midway through the second period.

Real Madrid, rather up and down this season, overcame Valencia 1-0. Higuain scored after only three minutes and it looked like more goals would be forthcoming but it was not to be. Plenty of chances, on both sides, but nothing found its way into the back of the net.

The Blue and Whites are up to ninth after a 1-1 draw at Racing Santander. Baha got on the end of a Nacho cross to put Málaga ahead just before half time, but Valera equalised for the home side midway through the second half.

Sevilla now occupy second place in the table after a 0-0 draw against Mallorca.

Atlético Madrid move up to third following a 2-3 win over struggling Espanyol. Maxi, with two, and Agüero were the scorers for Atlético, Sergio Sánchez and Valdo getting the goals for Espanyol.

In Division Two, Salamanca still lead the way despite losing 1-0 at Real Sociedad.

Zaragoza are in second place, a comfortable 3-0 win over Alicante being enough to see them move ahead of Xerez on goal difference after Xerez themselves were beaten 1-2 by visiting Gimnástic.

In the Primera Andaluza Grupo 3, local lads C.D. Nerja suffered a 3-0 defeat on their trip to Benamiel.

Mancha Real stay top, three points clear, after a 2-3 win over La Puerta C.D. El Palo remain second, beating Torremolinos 0-2 to keep up their challenge.

Both Álcala C.F., who had been having a torrid time, and Torredonjimeno C.F. have announced their withdrawal from competition and have withdrawn from the league.
