The Provincial Court in Almería has sentenced a man to 18 years in prison for killing his wife.
The man, a resident of Vícar, stabbed his wife, 21 year old Nicoleta I.M., a total of 18 times after she refused to resume living with him. His mother-in-law, who was also present during the incident, suffered injuries after trying to intervene and stop the brutal attack.
Despite the brutality of the assault, the prosecution reduced the charge from murder to manslaughter. The incident took place in May 2007.
