23 injured in ski lift accident in Granada

A ‘mechanical problem’ with one of the ski lifts at the Sierra Nevada ski station in Granada caused six chairs to crash to the ground yesterday, injuring a total of 23 people. Nine of the injured required hospital treatment and one, a woman, is in a serious condition in Hospital San Cecilio in Granada.

The incident occurred above the beginners area at Borreguiles, a cable snapping and sending the six chairs crashing down to earth. Fortunately, a good covering of soft snow helped cushion the fall and prevented even more serious injuries.
