The youth who confessed to killing Marta del Castillo yesterday told the court that he did not in fact throw the body of the dead girl into the river but into a rubbish container near his home in calle León XIII.
Up to 300 people have spent the past month searching and dredging the Rio Guadalquivir in an effort to locate the body of the girl, the search only being called off yesterday.
The accused, Miguel Carcaño, initially made a statement to the newspaper El Mundo in which he stated that, after killing Marta del Castillo, he threw her body in the Rio Guadalquivir from the Sevilla-Camas bridge. He now says that this confession was made so that all those involved in the case could agree upon their initial statements.
There are currently four people in custody relating to the case, Miguel Carcaño, his step-brother Javier and friends Samuel and Javier, the latter being a 15 year old minor.
