Deaths mar Dutch Queen’s Day celebrations in Apeldoorn

Horrendous scenes in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn as a car ploughed into a crowd of people attending Queen’s Day celebrations. Five people were killed in the incident and 14 others were injured.

The Royal Family, very popular in Holland, were traveling in an open topped bus through the streets when the  car came speeding towards them and ploughed through a group of people before crashing into a monument.

It is not yet known how the driver managed to enter the area, which had been cordoned off.

The driver of the vehicle is in hospital with life-threatening injuries. If he survives, he will be charged with an attack on the royal family and murder. The man, a 38 year old Dutch national, admitted targeting the royal family and said he acted alone.

The online community, using the license plates of the car, were able to identify and name the Dutch driver of the car within minutes of the incident.
