Fishermen net five metre shark off Marbella

The fishing boat ‘Nuevo Eva María’ was busy trawling off the Marbella coast when crew members thought they’d caught a dolphin in their nets and went to release it. However, they were shocked to find they’d got a 5 metre long Fox Shark.

The Fox Shark, Alopias Vulpinus, has a very long tail, almost as long as its body, which it uses to lash its prey. It is not uncommon to find these little fishes in the waters of Málaga province, although they don’t normally exceed four metres in length.

The shark was sold to a local restaurant.
