A 24 year old woman and her 18 month old baby died after they were hit by a van in Lucena, Córdoba, as they were walking along the road.
The woman, her husband and the baby were on their way down the Peñón del Grajo pathway in the Los Poleares area of Lucena when they were hit by a van. The force of the impact was such that the woman died instantly.
The father and the baby were taken to the Hospital Infanta Margarita de Cabra where the baby died shortly after being admitted. The father remains in hospital but his injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
The driver of the van, who had helped the victims after the incident, was initially arrested but was later released after testing negative for alcohol. All indications are that it was an unfortunate, albeit tragic, accident.
