The Ertzaintza (Basque police) has arrested a woman on charges of reckless homicide after her three year old child died after being left in a parked car.
The woman apparently returned to the car, parked at the side of the road near the town of Leioa, to find the child showing no signs of life. She called for an ambulance but the paramedics could do nothing but confirm the death of the toddler.
The Ertzaintza is investigating the incident to ascertain exactly what happened and how long the child was left alone in the car.
