Maro footbridge could be open by the end of the year

The new footbridge connecting the Nerja Caves with the village of Maro could be open by the end of the year, two years after it was first started.

The construction of the bridge, with a budget of €1.2 million, was originally intended to be a supplement to the A-7 highway project but ran into a series problems, mostly political in-fighting between the Nerja Council and the Nerja Caves Foundation (one PP, one PSOE), and suffered long delays.

There are apparently still a few ‘formalities’ to be sorted out but the bridge is currently expected to be open to the public by the end of the year.
