An extraordinary plenary session of the Sayalonga Council will today see the official announcement of the resignation of the incumbent Mayor, José Luis Navas (PSOE).
Navas filed a formal letter of resignation on Friday after having been sentenced to one year in prison and disqualified from public office for a further nine years for city planning violations. He is planning to remain as a councillor for a few months in order to help his colleagues.
Lourdes Ruiz, already deputising as mayor, is expected to be officially announced as the new Mayor of Sayalonga.
