It is widely expected that Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero will say ‘yes’ to a request from US Vice-President Joe Biden to provide more troops for Afghanistan after President Obama announces his new strategy.
Spain already has 1,220 troops in Aghanistan.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is sending 500 more troops to Aghanistan, bringing the total contingent to 9,500. The US has already asked France to send 1,500 more troops.
