The río Guadalquivir bursts its banks

The río Guadalquivir has burst its banks near the small town of Mogón in Jaén province and ten homes in the village of Villacarrillo have been flooded.

Also under threat are the villages of Mengíbar and Andújar. A retaining wall near the railway station in Jaén has collapsed causing disruption to the Madrid- Jaén and Jaén- Cádiz rail services with trains being cancelled.

Passengers are being transported by bus until the problem is resolved.
