Electronic access saves one million paper copies

Modernisation and simplification procedures undertaken by the Junta de Andalucia have resulted in the issuing by electronic means of 820,000 DNI certificates and 190,000 certificates of registration, thus negating the need to present over a million paper copies of these documents.

The initiative was launched two years ago by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration to eliminate the need to present paper copies for information already held by the public authorities. DNI information is already on a database of the Ministry of Interior and registration information is held by the National Institute of Statistics, both of which are publicly accessible.

One important area where residence data has been directly accessed electronically has been in the case of processing school applications, the Junta de Andalucia handling 92,044 (45%) direct access requests for the academic year 2009/2010.
