The funeral takes place on Wednesday of María Luisa Diez Cenedo, widow of the poet Francisco Giner de los Ríos.
María Luisa Diez Cenedo and Francisco Giner de los Ríos were honoured in 1987 with the title ‘Hijos Adoptivos’ (Adopted Children of Nerja) and the couple lived in calle Carabeo, moving there in the 1970’s.
One of the few public appearances by María Luisa Diez Cenedo was in 2005 when she attended an event at the Nerja Cultural Centre to commemorate the tenth anniversary of her husband’s death. At this event, two previously unpublished poems were read, one of them about Nerja.
