Ten arrested in drugs bust

Ten members of a drugs smuggling network, including the ringleaders, have been arrested in various parts of Andalucia as they tried to smuggle 2,300 kilos of hashish from Morocco to France via Spain.

The drug network were based in Ceuta and Cádiz. The drugs were purchased in Tangier and then brought into Spain along the Cadiz, Huelva, Málaga and Almería coastlines.

In the first part of the police operation, a boat laden with drugs was intercepted on the river Guadalquivir near the town of Lebrija.

Further arrests were then made in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santamaría and Ceuta. Eleven homes were searched and police confiscated 41 mobile phones, three excavators, one boat, a tractor, four jet ski’s, two motorbikes, six cars and eight horses. Quite a large, and bizarre haul.
