The Council in Jimena de la Frontera, Cádiz province, is assisting local families with limited means by helping with the payment of electric and water bills, financing this through a €16,000 reduction in the salaries of local councillors and €10,000 from the Provincial Council.
Qualification for such assistance is based upon the number of children in the family and an income of less than €633 per month.
Particularly in outer areas, such as San Pablo and Tesorillo, where agriculture is the basis of the economy, many families are finding it almost impossible to survive during the current financial crisis and are unable to pay their utility bills.
