School security guard stabbed

A 36 year old security guard is in a serious condition in hospital after being stabbed in the chest by thieves attempting to rob a school in Sevilla.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, the security guard chancing upon the thieves as he made his rounds at the Colegio de Educación Infantil y Primaria (CEIP) Pío XII in Sevilla.

The school has an alarm system but this was apparently not triggered by the thieves who made off with an unspecified amount of cash.

The National Police are conducting an investigation into the incident. The security guard is in the Hospital Virgen Macarena where his condition is described as serious.
