A day of mourning has been declared in the entire municipality of Pinos Puente (Granada province), which also includes the towns of Valderrubio, Zujaira, Trasmulas, Casanueva and Fuensanta, following the death of a local woman as the result of domestic violence.
Rafaela Rueda Contreras, aged 42 years and visually impaired, left the Social Services office after arranging a restraining order on her husband whom she had denounced for domestic abuse a month earlier. She then went to a chemist in calle Real to pick up some medication.
At the chemist, he ex-partner arrived and began to argue with her. The quarrel ended with an assault by the ex-partner in which Rafaela lost her life. The police are treating it as a case of domestic violence.
The alleged attacker, 67 year old J.H.F., was arrested by the Guardia Civil and taken into custody.
