The Unit for Immigration and Document Falsification (UCRIF) of the National Police has arrested a man in connection with the transportation to Spain of a group of illegal immigrants who were detained in Almeria a couple of weeks ago.
The detainee is a 36 year old Algerian national and he was arrested after two passengers on the boat agreed to testify in exchange for entering the Witness Protection Programme.
The witnesses testified that the boat owner tracked the vessel via GPS and provided instructions to the passengers on how to behave if they were intercepted by the Spanish authorities.
