Three people have been arrested and 1,800 kilos of hashish seized on Playa de Urbasur, Isla Cristina in Huelva province.
The drugs were being brought ashore and loaded into waiting vehicles when the Guardia Civil and Maritime Services offices pounced, confiscating the drugs and arresting three people.
Earlier, at around 05:30 on Sunday morning, a small inflatable boat with three people on board had been spotted close to the shore. With a Maritime Service vessel arriving in the area and the Guardia Civil on land, the smugglers were hemmed in, although that didn’t stop them trying to flee the scene.
The three detainees have been charged with trafficking in drugs and crimes against the public health. Police are also looking for the driver of one of the vehicles who managed to escape.
