Two people arrested for breaking into cars at Cueva de la Pileta

Two people have been arrested in connection with a number of robberies from cars at the Cueva de la Pileta in Benaojan, Málaga province.

A local resident alerted police to the presence of a suspicious vehicle in the car park, the two occupants appearing to be extremely vigilant while at the same time trying to remain concealed from view.

When the Guardia Civil arrived at the car park to investigate they found a rental car with a window smashed and the interior in disarray. The perpetrators were reported to be a man and a woman who had fled in the vehicle reported earlier as ‘suspicious’.

The two people would apparently watch and wait in the car park, targeting tourists who visited the caves. Once the tourists had left their vehicle and entered the caves, the thieves would strike.

Based on the information received, police traced the vehicle to Ronda and proceeded to arrest two people. It transpires that the thieves were responsible for a further five break-ins at the caves.
