Man electrocuted while cutting copper wire on electricity pylon

A man aged around 30 years died on Thursday afternoon after being electrocuted while trying to cut copper wire from an electricity pylon in calle Mula in the Cabeza Martinón district of Palomares, Cuevas del Almanzora (Almería).

The incident occurred at around 16:00. The man was busy cutting the copper wire on the pylon when he received a strong electrical shock causing him to fall around four metres to the ground.

One person present at the scene carried out CPR until the medical team arrived but it was all to no avail. The electric shock was sufficient to have caused cardiac arrest, this in turn causing him to fall.

It has been established that the man was not an employee of any of the utility companies, the presumption therefore being that he was engaged in the attempted theft of copper cable.
