Police searching for driver who caused death of motorcyclist

Police in Marbella are searching for the driver of a vehicle who fled the scene after allegedly causing the death of a 30 year old motorcyclist.

The incident occurred at km 217 on the A-7 in Benalmádena in the direction of Cádiz. A vehicle pulling a trailer carrying a motorcycle apparently stopped in the left lane and the driver got out. According to witnesses there were no warning signs displayed.

A car managed to avoid the stopped vehicle but a motorcycle travelling behind the car was unable to do so and crashed into it. The rider was catapulted into the central lane where he was hit by another vehicle. The rider died from his injuries before the Emergency Services arrived on the scene.

The driver of the car and trailer then got back into his vehicle and drove off.

The car and trailer were later found abandoned at the Higuerón exit and police are now trying to identify the owner of the vehicle and establish who was driving it at the time of the incident. Forensics experts have been examining the vehicle and taking fingerprints from the interior.
