Día del Pendón in Almeria

The city of Almeria is today celebrating the Día del Pendón, a local festival to commemorate the reconquest of Almeria by the Catholic Monarchs on December 26th 1489.

The day begins at 08:00 with the placing of the banner on the Palacio de los Marqueses de Cabra and is followed by the firing of 21 cannon.  After the ritual speech by the mayor, the banner is then taken through the streets to the Catedral de la Encarnación along calles, Arráez,  Administración Vieja, Juez and Cervantes, the Municipal Band playing the National Anthem.

After a short time at the Catedral de la Encarnación, the banner will be on the move once again, travelling from the Plaza de la Catedral along calles Eduardo Pérez, Real,  Jovellanos, Mariana and Cervantes before returning to the Plaza de la  Catedral.

After a solemn Mass at the cathedral, the banner will be taken to the Town Hall where it will remain until 18:00.
