A five minute hailstorm at 22:00 on Friday forced the closure of the Emergency Department of the Vélez Sur Health Centre.
The hail and dirt accumulated on the roof of the main building and this led to flooding in the administrative area and areas around the emergency rooms. Although the flooding did not affect the electrical supply or communications, the decision was immediately taken transfer the A&E service to Torre del Mar.
The Local Police and Fire Brigade then began the task of clearing out the blocked water spouts from the roof of the building.
