Jail for driver involved in fatal accident in Badajoz

The Court Number 2 in Castuera has ordered detention in custody without bail for the excavator driver involved in an fatal accident on Thursday in Badajoz in which five children were killed.

The accident occurred at 21.22 hours at kilometer 3.5 of the BA- 051  linking the towns of Puerto Hurraco and Castuera  and involved a minibus and an excavator. There were 17 people in the minibus including 14 children belonging to the Monterrubio de la Serena football team.

The survivors were all wearing seatbelts but it is not known about those who tragically lost their lives. The driver of the excavator, 37-year-old FFM, tested positive for cocaine and cannabis through a saliva test and police are awaiting a full laboratory analysis

He has been charged with five counts of negligent homicide, causing serious injuries and a crime against road safety.
