Málaga beat Newcastle United 3-1 in their opening game of the Schalke 04 Cup in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.
Sergi Darder scored from long range and teenager Samu Castillejo added two more before half time. Gabriel Obertan pulled one back on the hour mark, but Newcastle could not find the target again.
