Arrests in Málaga and Sevilla for Social Security fraud

Fraud and corruption cases, old and new, are a familiar sight and often make up quite a large percentage of the daily news items, and today is no exception.

National Police officers, as part of a combined operation, have arrested 39 people in Málaga in connection with Social Security fraud amounting to €260,000. In addition, 31 people have fraudulently claimed over €80,000 in unemployment benefits.

The organisation set up a network of 11 companies, mainly bogus but some actually showing activity, in order to obtain various benefits and allowances, such as maternity, retirement etc. Contracts were also issued to legalise the status of foreigners in the country.

Another operation in Sevilla has led to the detention of 57 people whose objective was to defraud the Social Security system in similar fashion.
