Council requests clean-up of riverbeds to prevent possible flooding

The Council is once more requesting the Junta de Andalucia to carry out urgent cleaning work along the rio Seco and rio Chillar in Nerja in order to prevent any problems should heavy rains occur.

The Council made the same request last year but, in the end, had to carry out the exercise themselves using municipal funds as the Junta de Andalucia failed to respond. The cleaning cost last year was €9,075 and attempts to receive reimbursement also fell upon deaf ears.

According to the Council, Article 13 of the Flood Prevention Plan states that the Junta de Andalucia is responsible for the preservation of public waterways.
