Poundland aiming for ten stores in Spain by next summer

The British chain Poundland is planning to have ten stores in Spain by next summer, creating 500 jobs in the process.

Poundland, under the name Dealz and selling everything at a fixed price of €1.50, unveiled its third Spanish store in Madrid this week, after opening branches in Torremolinos and Alicante in July.

Poundland stores each sell around 3,000 different products in 17 categories, ranging from shampoo to sweets and yogurts. All the items are leading brands, no own-brand products or two-for-one deals, just individual brand items sold at the single fixed price of €1.50.

The Dealz branches in Torremolinos, Alicante and Madrid are set to be followed by another in Málaga and a second Madrid store before the end of the year, with a total of 10 outlets to be in operation by next summer.

Poundland was founded in the UK in 1990 and now has 500 stores in Britain and Ireland with an annual turnover of €1.3 billion.
