Serrato could become the 103rd municipality in Málaga province

The Andalucia Advisory Council has given the green light for the independence of Serrato, a Local Autonomous Entity (ELA) currently a dependency of Ronda.

If approved by the Governing Council of the Junta de Andalucia, Serrato would become the 103rd municipality in Málaga province. Montecorto recently became the 102nd municipality in the province in similar fashion.

Serrato, located 24 kilometres from Ronda, has a population of around 520 people, and became an ELA in 1999. It began the process for independence in May 2011, the same time as Motecorto, but despite following exactly the same process has not yet been granted municipality status.

Serrato was an independent municipality back in 1899.
