Botanical garden finished, but not open to the public

The new botanical garden at the Nerja Caves, christened ‘Detunda’ after the Roman name for Maro, has apparently been completed but will not be open to the public until at least the end of the year.

Council receives botanical garden project

The Provincial Delegate for the Environment, Marina Bravo, has presented the Council with the official project for the construction of a botanical garden at Plaza de los Cangrejos-Torrecilla beach.

It is reported that work on the Detunda-Nerja Caves Botanical Garden is in its final phase and could be finished by the end of May or early June and open to the public within a few months.

The Council is requesting the Department of Coasts to create a botanical garden in the area between Torrecilla beach and Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos, apparently known as the Acantilados del Mar de Alborán – Alboran Sea Cliffs.

Vélez-Málaga Council is planning to invest over €2.4 million to construct a botanical garden around the XVII century Los Remedios convent, funding coming from the Fund for the Modernisation of Tourist Infrastructure (FOMIT) and the Urban Initiative fund.
