Local Police in Fuengirola carried out over 100 breath tests over the Christmas period at 14 control points throughout the town. Around 4% of those tested produced a positive result for excessive alcohol levels.
Breath test results
There were 41 breath tests carried out on motorists in Nerja during the period July 11th to 17th of which 6 (14.6%) were positive. However, none of those drivers tested exceeded 60 mg of alcohol per litre of air breathed which would have resulted in prosecution.
Start of intensive alcohol controls on Spanish roads
Today sees the start of a DGT crackdown on drinking and driving with 20,000 breath tests being carried out each day.
