Apart from the general reduction in Christmas lighting this year due to the financial crisis, understandable in many ways, another noticeable difference was the lack, not only in Nerja but along the entire coast, of festive songs, carols etc, being played in shops, malls etc. In some coastal towns there was almost a total absence of such festive songs. A couple of permanent closures…

Salamandra, the adventure place on calle El Barrio has now gone and they can now be found in Competa. They were only in Nerja for a relatively short period of time. The clothes and leather goods shop at the avenida Castilla end of calle El Barrio has also gone.

Shops hoping for good Christmas after poor autumn

Shops in Málaga, particularly those involved in textiles, are hoping to attract customers with special offers for the Christmas period after suffering an estimated 20 to 30 per cent drop in sales in recent months due to the exceptionally good weather.

Arrivals and departures

Businesses in Nerja continue to come and go on a regular basis, hardly surprising under the present economic crisis. In calle El Barrio, the former Andalucia Soap Company which then, for a short while, became Olíbano, has now closed after having a final clearance sale.

Opening soon…

Quite a few comings and goings all over town at the moment on the shop front with a lot of ‘work in progress’. Unfortunate time to be doing such work really. Frutas Lola (opposite El Bosque on avenida Castilla Perez) is scheduled to open on August 5th.
