Hiking fatality in the Sierra Nevadas

A 65-year-old hiker died last night in the Sierra Nevada mountains after temperatures fell to minus seventeen degrees and 100 kph winds hit the area.

Two climbers rescued in the Sierra Nevadas

On Saturday, the Guardia Civil rescued two climbers who were attempting to climb the Pico del Caballo in the Sierra Nevadas but found themselves unable to reach the mountain shelter and also unable to make a descent due to a lack of crampons.

The ski season approaches in the Sierra Nevadas

The Sierra Nevada ski station in Granada recorded 15 centimetres of snow at the weekend above 2,500 metres and the temperatures and humidity were also conducive to begin the production of artificial snow. The ski season is currently scheduled to begin on December 1st, weather permitting.
