As many people will have noticed, the coastline of Nerja, as well as most of the Axarquia, has been hit by huge orange patches. This is a natural phenomenon and is neither toxic nor due to a lack of sewage treatment facilities. It relates to the spawning of such species as anchovies and sardines and is a regular occurrence.
