A group of experts from various national and international universities are set to conduct an archaeological survey in an are which is thought might contain the mass grave in which the poet Federico Garcia Lorca was buried after his execution.
The survey, which will begin on November 17th, weather permitting, will be solely for the purpose of identifying whether or not there are any human remains below the surface.
The objective of the exercise is not to locate the remains of the poet but to identify any mass graves from the Civil War period. If skeletal remains are found, details will be passed on to a court to decide any further action.
The area being investigated is a 300 square metre site known as Peñon del Colorado on the road between Viznar and Alfacar. An investigation of the area last year resulted in the discovery of two anomalies, one of which could possibly be a communal burial site.
