Man arrested for insurance fraud

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in Vélez-Málaga as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of fraud by submitting false claims to an insurance company following a robbery at his home.

The man reported a robbery at his home and submitted a list of items that had allegedly been stolen. A few days later, when attending the police station to formalise the complaint, discrepancies were noticed in the number of items being reported as stolen in the robbery.

The man then admitted that the robbers had taken around €20,000 in cash from his home and, because the insurance company does not pay out for cash stolen, he tried to recover this amount by adding items to that value to his list.
