HAWAIIAN SHIRTS A NO-NO

The Council has been busy formulating its plans for the beaches in Nerja as regards things like sun beds and parasols, and it’s all about image.

The actual number of licensed sun beds will be less than last year with 17 licenses being issued for a total of 1,180 loungers throughout the municipality. Burriana beach will have the most, 750, followed by Torrecilla, 175, and El Playazo with 100. Due to proposed works on a new promenade, El Chucho beach will not be getting any loungers.

There are also some new rules!
Sunlounger mattresses must all be navy blue.
Areas used for sun beds must not be partitioned off or enclosed by the traditional bamboo windshields.
Parasols must be made of wood and not metal in order to prevent oxidation.

The vendors of the beach services also have new ‘guidelines’, although these are currently only an oral recommendation.
No Hawaiian-style shirts.
No sleeveless T-shirts
No bare chests.
The recommended mode of attire is a white polo neck with navy blue trousers, long or short. The idea is to present a uniform image throughout the municipality!

The price of hiring sunloungers is set to rise from the current €3 to €4 to cover the cost of implementing the new rules.

Another change due to take place is the transfer of some boat services from El Playazo to Burriana beach, including those which pull the parachutes (what are they called?)…..
