Javier López López from the Club Nerja de Atletismo has become the junior Spanish Champion in the 60 metres sprint, equalling the Spanish national record in the process with a time of 7.95 seconds.
Only last week, at the Copa de Espania in Valencia, López clocked a time of 7.96 seconds for the 60 metres dash, signalling his intentions for the upcoming Championships in the Anoeta indoor arena in San Sebastian.
There were also some other fine performances by local athletes in these junior championships. Amanda Rodríguez was 5th in the triple jump, Verónica López was 5th in the pole vault, Víctor García was 7th in the combination and Jorgé Bermejo was 8th in the pole vault. Lorena Laz qualified for the finals of the 200 metres but was forced to withdraw through injury.
