Real Madrid coach Berndt Schuster admitted that he didn’t take his former club seriously enough as Real went down 1-0 to Getafe. Barcelona, on the other mitten, knocked in five against Levante to take them within 2 points of the leaders. Samuel Eto’o scored a hat-trick in the 5-1 win with Uche getting the consolation goal for Getafe.

Villarreal remain third after coming from behind to beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1, Franco and Capdevila the scorers. Atlétic Madrid stay in fourth place despite losing 3-1 to Osasuna.

In Division Two, the Blue and Whites could only draw with Eibar 1-1. Málaga C.F. took the lead through Baha, but Altuna scored a late equaliser for the home side. Numancia, however, had no trouble disposing of Hércules 2-1, Toché and Julio Alvarez the scorers for the home side and Jaume for the visitors. Numancia are now five points clear of the Blue and Whites. Sporting Gijon are in third place after a 1-2 win at Albacete.

C.D. Nerja moved up to eighth place in the Primera Andaluza Grupo 3 after a fine 2-0 win against Real Jaén B. Leaders C.D. Ronda hammered seven past poor Carolinense and remain seven points clear of second placed Estepona.
