Football

Real Madrid are now eight points clear at the top of La Liga after a 1-0 victory over Murcia, the in-form Sneijder scoring an excellent goal. Barcelona, despite only managing a draw on Saturday, are back up to second spot after Acasiete gave Almería a 1-0 victory against Villarreal.

Sevilla consolidated sixth place, and a possible UEFA Cup spot, with a 2-3 win away to Mallorca. Renato, Kanouté and Alves were on target for the visitors, Guiza and Webó scoring for the home side.

In Division 2, the Blue and Whites came out on top against Sporting Gijón, moving to within seven points of leaders Numancia after their 3-2 victory. Baha, Hidalgo and Gerardo found the net for Málaga C.F., Diego Castro and Hidalgo (a different Hidalgo!) scoring for Sporting. More importantly, the Blue and Whites now have an eight point cushion over third placed Sporting.

Leaders Numancia were held to a 1-1 draw away to Sevilla Atlético. Juanjo looked to have secured the points for the home side but Julio Alvarez conjured up a late equaliser.

In the Primera Andaluza Grupo 3, local lads Nerja CD are back up to eighth place after a 0-1 victory away to Baeza C.F. The leaders, CD Ronda, continued their winning ways with a 2-0 win against Alcalá and second placed Estepona disposed of Mancha Real 2-0.

MotoGP
