A fire at a house in Madrid early this morning has claimed the lives of two people, an 85 year old woman and a 41 year old man.
The fire broke out in the living room of a house in Avenida de la Albufera and the subsequent toxic fumes spread to the bedrooms where the two victims were sleeping. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which was restricted to the one room of the house, and it was not necessary to evacuate residents from neighbouring properties.
